Biography
Kim Weissenborn is an American painter based in Rueil-Malmaison, France, where she lives and works on the "Island of the Impressionists." After her training at the Parsons School of Design, her work has evolved into an ongoing search for the underlying truth of a moment. For Weissenborn, the subject isn't just the landscape or the figure; it is the act of finding the painting itself.
Rather than sticking to one look, she lets each piece go where it needs to. This keeps the work from becoming a predictable product. It is a live record of a search—one that moves between focus and a total blurring of the edges, depending on what the moment calls for.
Her paintings are held in the permanent collection of Château Bonnemare and in over 200 private collections across Europe and the United States. Recent milestones include a 2025 solo exhibition at the Jacques Baumel Médiathèque in Rueil-Malmaison. She continues to work from her studio along the Seine, influenced by the specific light and history of a landscape that has drawn painters for generations.
Statement
I am still learning how to paint.
I have been doing this long enough to know that the chase is the point. I will likely never "arrive" at a final destination or a fixed style, and I’ve stopped looking for one. For me, painting is an exchange—a way of following a subject to see where it leads.
I don’t go to the easel with a map. Each piece has its own requirements. Sometimes that means using sharp lines and high contrast; other times, the reality of a scene only surfaces when I let the details fall away. I am looking for the pulse of a subject—the version that exists when I stop trying to make it fit a preconceived idea.
I am not trying to document a scene. I am trying to record what is left when the world stops talking and the work begins to speak for itself.
