Make Your Own Saint Patrick's Day Shamrock Pins!
Saint Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than by creating something festive you can wear—and maybe even share with a friend? This year, we decided to have a little fun with the seniors and make shamrock pins! They’re bright, cheerful, and a perfect way to sprinkle some luck wherever you go.
140 lb watercolor paper
Watercolors (light green and dark green)
Small watercolor brushes (#6 works perfectly)
Water containers
Black permanent markers (medium tip)
Scissors
Pin backings (find them at Michael’s)
Hot glue or tacky glue
A picture of a shamrock for inspiration
Optional: a pinch of green glitter for extra sparkle ✨
Instructions: Step-by-Step
Cut & PrepCut your watercolor paper into squares about 3" x 3"—big enough for a pin backing and lots of creativity!
Get InspiredShare a little history! Talk about St. Patrick’s Day and the significance of the shamrock. Did you know it’s been a symbol of luck for centuries? 🍀
Draw Your Shamrock
Place a small dot in the center of your square.
From that dot, draw three heart shapes radiating out to form the shamrock leaves.
Add a stem in between two of the hearts.
Outline & Paint
Trace your shamrock with a black permanent marker.
Paint the leaves light green. Let your creativity shine—this is where your shamrock starts coming to life!
Cut Out & Personalize
Cut around the shamrock, leaving about a 1/8" border.
Flip it over and write your name near the edge—it’s your personal lucky charm!
Add Dimension
Flip it back over and brush dark green paint in the center of each leaf, blending outward.
Add a tiny dot of glue in the center and sprinkle a little green glitter for some extra magic. ✨
Attach the Pin
Flip over your shamrock, attach the pin backing with glue, and let it dry.
Share the LuckEncourage everyone to make extra pins to gift to a loved one, friend, or fellow lucky charm enthusiast!

Nothing says “Happy Saint Patrick’s Day” like wearing your own hand-painted shamrock pin—and sharing a little green cheer with those around you. Have fun, get creative, and may your day be filled with luck and laughter!
